SPACECODE Introduces New Chip

SPACECODE SA introduces the Tau R6 chip, a combined digital - analog integrated circuit for magnetic induction RFID readers working at non resonant frequencies. This highly versatile IC accommodates a wide range of microcontrollers, supports a unique and widely commercialized deterministic air interface protocol, and is well suited for low cost fixed, portable or hand held reader solutions.

The low cost, low voltage, high capacitance Tau R6 can be operated with less than 3.0V supply voltage with output power up to 300mW, and its 78 bits array remains laser programmable. The non resonant technology used in the circuit offers resistance to detuning of the chip, thus substantially increasing its utility compared to other vendor solutions.

The distinct design of the Tau R6 contributes to broad flexibility and versatility of the IC allowing it to be used in a wide range of applications where metal, organic materials, close proximity, and multiple orientations are typical. This innovative chip enables reading distances of up to 2 meters even in the presence of RFID hostile media such as metal, organic and liquid material, and bulk reading of heterogeneous and multi item pallets. Speed is also substantially enhanced to a level approaching 20 – 30 tags per second.

The SPACECODE chip portfolio in magnetic induction RFID applications now includes availability of the Syg R4, Pav R5, and Tau R6 chips, thus providing customers with real choice for their applications and implementations.

The Tau R6 chip is the outcome of extended collaboration between our engineers, our clients and our partners” said Georges Folcke, Head of Engineering at SPACECODE ‘and provides tangible advances in RFID chip technology’
